With a book by Craig Lucas and music and lyrics by Adam Guettel\, this romantic musical won six Tonys in its 2005 Broadway premiere. Its soaring musical style has brought it to both musical theatre companies and opera houses. Based on a novella by Elizabeth Spencer\, the story is set in the 1950s and revolves around Margaret Johnson\, a wealthy Southern woman\, and her daughter Clara.
